Demographic situation in Azerbaijan

From the beginning of the year number of population of the country increased by 20063 persons or 0,2% and became to 10139196 persons for the state of the 1st March 2021. 53,0 percent of the population is urban, 47,0 percent is rural residents, 49,9 percent is male and 50,1 percent is female. At present, there are 1002 women per 1000 men. The population per square kilometer is 117 persons.

On January-June of current year 56063 newborns by country were registered by the region (city) Registration Departments of Ministry of Justice and per 1,000 person of population, this indicator was 11,3%. 53,1% of newborns were boys, 46,9% were girls.

37047 deaths were registered in the country on the first six months of 2021 and the number of deaths was 7,5% per 1000 person.

In the six months of the current year 23231 marriages and 8168 divorces were registered by the Registration Departments and the number of marriages increased from 3,5% to 4,7% and divorces was from 1,4% to 1,6 % per 1000 person compared to the corresponding period of 2020.

On January-June of current year the relevant authorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Migration Service registered 1231 person arrivals to Azerbaijan for permanent residence and 184 person departures from the country and migration positive balance made up 1047 person.
