Foreign trade relations

On January-September 2020 legal and natural entities of the Republic of Azerbaijan realized trade operations with their partners in 178 countries of the world, goods were exported to 107 countries and imported from 167 countries.

Taking into account value of statistically estimated exported crude oil and natural gas registered in the customs agencies but customs formalities of which not completed the foreign trade turnover of the country on January-September 2020 made 17830,3 million USD. 10006,8 million USD or 56,1% of trade turnover made the export value, 7823,5 (43,9%) million USD – import value and consequently positive trade balance reached to 2183,3 million USD. In comparison with January-September 2019 foreign trade turnover decreased in actual price by 28,2%, in real terms by 22,0%, including import – 38,7%, export - 10,0%.

On January-September 2020 the export of non-oil gas products, compared to corresponding period of previous year, decreased in actual price by 9,2%, while in real terms it decreased by 18,2% and made 1282,4 million USD.

According to the State Customs Committee data, 29,5% of export value was formed based on goods exported to Italy, 19,9% - Turkey, 4,7% – Russia, 4,1% - Greece, 4,0% – China, 3,9% - India, 3,6% - Israel, per 3,5% - Croatia and Georgia, 2,7% – Ukraine, 2,6% - Spain, 2,0% - Germany, 1,8% - Czech Republic, per 1,6% – Tunisia and Switzerland and the rest 11,0% - other countries.

The share of goods sent to Russia (37,9%), Turkey (19,6%), Switzerland (12,9%), Georgia (7,8%), China (2,6%), Ukraine (2,3%), Italy (1,8%), Iran (1,6%), Kazakhstan (1,5%), Belarus (1,0%), USA (0,9%), Turkmenistan (0,9%), Germany (0,9%) was prevailed in export value on non-oil gas products.

18,4% of total value of goods imported to our country was per the share of Russia, 14,4% – Turkey, 13,0% - China, 6,7% - USA, 5,3% – Germany, 4,2% - France, 4,0% – Ukraine, 3,9% - Italy, 2,8% – UK, 2,7% – Iran, 1,9% – Japan, 1,7% – Korea, and 21,0% - other countries.

On January-September 2020 compared to corresponding period of previous year export of main types of products like fresh vegetable increased by 5,7%, potato – 31,8%, fruit and vegetable juice – 13,8%, vegetable oils – 48,4%, fruit and vegetable cans – 6,2%, margarine, other mixtures fit for food – 19,0%, cotton fiber – 2,5%, polyethylene – 23,9%, ferrous metal pipes – 1,9 times, bentonite clay – 1,3%, while export of fresh fruit decreased by 13,3%, sugar – 45,2%, tobacco – 27,7%, tea – 7,4%, natural grape wine and cellar – 58,5%, unprocessed aluminum – 23,8%, cotton yarn – 37,4%, semi-finished ferrous metals - 66,7%.

On January-September 2020 compared to January-September 2019 import of fresh fruit increased by 14,7%, raw sugar and sugar – 2,0%, butter, other milk fats and pastas – 29,2%, tea – 4,5%, beef – 18,8%, fresh vegetable – 32,3%, motor cars – 29,5%, medical products – 53,4%, computing machinery, blocks and installations – 26,3%, ferrous metal rods – 1,8 times, while import of wheat decreased by 13,0%, vegetable oils – 0,2%, potato – 4,6%, poultry meat and its additional products – 16,5%, cigarettes – 77,2%, ferrous metal pipes – 16,1%, steel rolling – 6,6%, mineral fertilizers – 6,2%, rubber tires – 19,1%, furniture – 25,2%, domestic trucks – 8,5%, air conditioners – 31,5%, polyethylene – 26,0%, washing machines – 5,5%, ferrous metal corners – 9,9%, busses - 65,2%, domestic refrigerators – 0,2%, cement and cement clinker – 29,7%.
