International Seminar on Industrial Statistics held in Vienna, Austria

Representative of the State Statistical Committee Farhad Aliyev - Deputy Head Coordination of Statistical Works Department participated in the International Seminar on Industrial Statistics organized by UNIDO on 14-16October, 2015 in Vienna, Austria. The main purpose of the workshop was for participants to exchange views and opinions on emerging issues of industrial statistics in the context of the global monitoring of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9, which reads: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation. The seminar was bring together statisticians of national and international data producing agencies to discuss technical and practical issues related to potential indicators to measure the progress on SDG 9.The seminar was dedicated to the World Statistics Day 20 October 2015.
Experts from Statistical bodies of South Africa, United Republic of Tanzania, Vietnam, Uruguay, Slovakia, Ethiopia, Nepal, Ukraine, Russia, Nigeria, Laos, Austria, Kazakhstan, Ghana, Azerbaijan and experts of the Ministry of Industry of Myanmar as well as, representatives of ILO, International Energy Agency, University of Vrije (Brussels), UNESCO, FAO, IAEA, ITU and representatives of UNIDO were participated in the seminar.
During the seminar following topics were discussed: Statistical data for monitoring sustainable industrialization; Measures of industrialization for cross country analysis; Sources and methods of national industrial data production; Indicators measuring use of energy resources and impact of industrial production on environment; Indicators of social inclusiveness in industry; General concepts of employment and gender equality; Indicators on small scale enterprises; UNIDO Technical assistance programme in industrial statistics; Data sources for SDG monitoring: Official statistics and big data;
The seminar was opened by Mr. Nishikava - Deputy Director of UNIDO. After the opening session was presented video dedicated to “World Statistics Day” and Statistical Department of UNIDO.
During the seminar all participant courtiers presented presentation according to the topics of the seminar. As well as, representative of the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan – Farhad Aliyev presented presentation on “Industry Statistics System in Azerbaijan” and gave information about the State Statistical Committee and Department of Industry and Construction Statistics.
The last day of the seminar mainly presentations were presented by the representatives of international organizations.
