Workshop on Water Resources Statistics and Water Indicators and working group session on Ecological Indicators held in Geneva

Workshop on Water Resources Statistics and Water Indicators and 10th Session Working Group on Ecological Indicators held on 11-13 May, 2015 in Geneva.
Representatives of Statistical Bodies and Ministry of Ecology of CIS member countries as well as, representatives of Georgia, Albania, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, European Agency on Environment, Interstate Statistical Committee of CIS, and other international organizations participated in the workshop. The Republic of Azerbaijan was represented by Head of Sector on Ecology, Forestry and Fishing Statistics of the Department of Agricultural and Environment Statistics of the State Statistical Committee – R. Lazimova.
Workshop on Water Resources Statistics and Water Indicators was dedicated to statistical data and comparison of indicators on water resources, water abstraction and water uses. This session aimed to bring statistics and indicators on water resources, water abstractions and water uses in relation with national and international policy needs. Typical water-related policy needs of the region as well as the global perspective (e.g. SDGs) discussed and examples presented how water statistics and indicators can respond to these needs.
Representatives from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Russia, Bosnia and Herzegovina presented presentations on indicators of water resources, water abstraction and water uses.
Representative of Azerbaijan gave wide information in her presentation on legal base on water uses in Azerbaijan, management structure of water industry of the country, “Development Concept “Azerbaijan - 2020: outlook for the future”, measurement and reporting system on water, graphic description of water statistics and official statistical publications.
Chair and Vice Chair of the Working Group was defined by election in the 10th session of Working Group on Ecological Indicators. Representative of Kazakhstan Aygul Babayeva was elected as the Chair and Natalya Jarkina from Belarus as Vice Chair.
During the session production of selected 14 ecological indicators, online Guidelines for the Application of Environmental Indicators were discussed.
Representatives from Albania, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan presented presentations on production and exchange of selected indicators.
At the end of the session the secretariat provided information about the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA), and in particular, how the system relates to the activities of the Joint Task Force and regional activities and upcoming events on SEEA, including the Joint ECE/Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Seminar on SEEA implementation to be held in October 2015.
