The training course on “SDMX” for data and metadata exchange, basic course held in Luxembourg

Representatives of the State Statistical Committee Rashid Valiyev – Deputy Head of Department of Price Statistics and Vugar Shahbazov – Head of sector of Department of Quality Management and Information Technologies participated in the training course on “SDMX” for data and metadata exchange, basic course organized by Eurostat on 19-21 November, 2014 in Luxembourg.
The objective of the course was to provide data managers and the NSI management with more detailed information on what is SDMX, how it can contribute to improved data quality, and how to gradually implement it for the exchange of data with international organizations.
Experts of Statistical Organizations of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, Lebanon, Algeria and Armenia participated in the training course.
During the course followings were discussed: Assess how to take advantage of SDMX in their day-to-day work; Understand what a DSD and MSD are and how they reflect requirements for data and metadata exchange; Work with the IT specialists in the organization in planning for SDMX in their domain; Understand the relationship between SDMX and the process of the production of statistics; understand the mapping between GSBPM activities and the usage of SDMX; understand the different roles of the organizations in the collection and production of statistics and the relationship with SDMX; understand (in broad terms) the different tools that Eurostat can provide.
The last day of the course representatives of the participated countries expressed their opinions and presented presentations on SDMX. Representatives of the State Statistical Committee also presented their presentation on SDMX. Their presentation was about application of some kind of SDMX standards (ESS Standard for Quality Reports Structure (release 1, October 2010) və EURO-SDMX Metadata Structure (release 3, March 2009)) in the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Also, it was announced that web seminar on Management of Metadata will be organized on 03.12.2014, 28.01.2015 and 21.04.2015 by Skype and Registry of SDMX on 23.01.2015 and 06.05.2015.
