Workshop on Water Information System and reporting of data on water and 8th Joint Task Force on Environmental Indicators held from 13th till 15th of May in Geneva.
Representatives of Statistical Bodies and Ministry of Ecology of CIS member countries as well as, representatives of Georgia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, European Agency on Environment, Interstate Statistical Committee of CIS, Regional Environmental Center of Central Asia and other international organizations participated in the workshop. The Republic of Azerbaijan was represented by Head of Sector on Ecology, Forestry and Fishing Statistics of the Department of Agricultural and Environment Statistics of the State Statistical Committee – R. Lazimova and Advisor of the Division of Ecology and Nature Protection Policy of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources – A. Yusifova.
The purpose of the workshop on Water Information System and reporting of data on water held on 13th of May was the management water quality of rivers and lakes, utilization of population from water and sanitary network and exchange of practices in developing national information systems on population`s connection to public water supply and to wastewater treatment. Presentations on management water quality of rivers and lakes were presented by Belarus, Moldova, Georgia and Armenia.
8th Joint Task Force on Environmental Indicators was dedicated to analysis on the production and sharing of UNECE 8 core environmental indicators by countries of South-Eastern and Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia. They were emission of pollutants into the atmospheric air, emission of pollutants into the atmospheric air, consumption of ozone-depleting substances, greenhouse gas emissions, biochemical oxygen demand and concentration of ammonium in rivers, nutrients in freshwater, protected areas, waste generation.
It was informed that from 8 indicators on Azerbaijan 5 indicators are placed in the webpage of the State Statistical Committee.
At the end of the workshop recommendations for the production and exchange of environmental indicators are listed to the participants.
