Representatives of the State Statistical Committee participated in the Inception Seminar organized in Vienna International Centre

Deputy Chairman of the State Statistical Committee Rauf Salimov and Head of Department on Industry and Construction Statistics Hajibala Dadashov participated in the Inception Seminar organized in Vienna International Centre by UNIDO on 16-17 December, 2013 in Vienna, Austria.
The Seminar was dedicated to the improvement of industrial statistics and development of indicators of industrial performance for policy analysis in CIS countries. The seminar was aimed at initiating the discussions and building a common position on key methodological issues of industrial statistics during the implementation phase of recently approved regional project. The objective of the project was to improve the institutional capacity of CIS implementing the recently adopted international standards of industrial statistics in order to enable the NSOs of the region to produce timely and internationally comparable statistics relevant to industrial development policy.
The seminar was held by the participation of representatives, executive employees and specially invited experts from CIS statistics Committee, Russian Federation, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan and UNIDO.
The current project covered different areas of industrial statistics, such as assistance in conducting industrial structural surveys, updating business registry systems, development of national indicators of industrial statistics, including the industrial production indices calculation, and development the analytical performance indicators for policy-relevant analysis in CIS countries. Using the methodology improved through UNIDO support, the project produced structured statistical data that was internationally comparable and in line with international recommendations on industrial statistics.
During the Seminar representatives from CIS countries presented their reports on industry statistics. Also, our representative presented his presentation on the topic of "The official industry statistics system".
At the end of the seminar topics were discussed by the participants and decided to determine topics for future seminars on discussed topics.
