Development of tourism
According to the State Border Service data, on January-November 2019 Azerbaijan received from 192 countries of the world 2923.8 thousand or 11.0 percent more foreigners and stateless persons compared with the January-November 2018. 29.7 percent of the arrivals were from Russian Federation, 22.6 percent – Georgia, 9.9 percent - Turkey, 8.0 percent - Iran, 3.5 percent - Saudi Arabia, per 2.0 percent - the United Arab Emirates and India, 1.9 percent Ukraine, 1.7 percent – Turkmenistan, 1.6 percent – Iraq, per 1.5 percent - Kazakhstan and Israel, 1.4 percent – Pakistan, 1.2 percent - Great Britain, 11.4 percent were citizens of other countries, 0.1 percent were stateless people. 66.3 percent of the arrivals were men and 33.7 percent were women.
There has been a significant increase in the number of visitors in January-November among Turkmenistan (90,0 percent), India (67,7 percent), China (63,1 percent), Egypt (58,5 percent), Malaysia (51,2 percent), Saudi Arabia (46,1 percent), Hungary (32,8 percent), Poland (31,7 percent), Uzbekistan (27,3 percent), Spain (26,6 percent), Philippines (26,5 percent), Great Britain (26,5 percent), Kazakhstan (24,1 percent), South Korea (20,2 percent), Georgia (20,1 percent) and Germany (19,8 percent) citizens.
On January-November 2019, the number of arrivals from EU members increased by 22,0 percent and amounted to 130,0 thousand and from the CIS countries it increased by 9,1 percent and amounted to 1060,0 thousand persons.
58,4 percent of foreigners and stateless persons who came to our country used railway and automobile, 40,8 percent - air and 0,8 percent - water transport.
The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan going abroad in January-November 2019 increased by 14,1 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and amounted 5095,0 thousand persons. 36,7 percent of the country citizens travelled to Iran, 28,7 percent - Georgia, 17,6 percent - Russian Federation, 11,5 percent - Turkey, 5,5 percent to other countries. 64,0 percent of the travellers were men and 36,0 percent were women.
During this period, the number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan travelling to Iran increased by 25,5 percent, Georgia – by 12,7 percent, Russian Federation – by 6,2 percent, Turkey – 4,5 percent.
In January-November 2019, 82,5 percent of the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited foreign countries using railway and automobile, 16,8 percent - air and 0,7 percent- water transport.
