Development of tourism
According to the State Border Service data, in 2019 Azerbaijan received from 193 countries of the world 3170.4 thousand or 11.3 percent more foreigners and stateless persons compared to the previous year. 29.4 percent of the arrivals were from Russian Federation, 22.9 percent – Georgia, 10.0 percent - Turkey, 8.1 percent - Iran, 3.4 percent - Saudi Arabia, 2.2 percent – the United Arab Emirates, 2.1 percent – India, 1.9 percent – Ukraine, per 1.6 percent – Turkmenistan and Iraq, per 1.5 percent – Kazakhstan, Pakistan and Israel, 1.2 percent – Great Britain, 11.0 percent – were citizens of other countries and 0.1 percent were stateless people. 66.6 percent of the arrivals were men and 33.4 percent were women.
There has been a significant increase in the number of visitors in 2019 among citizens of Turkmenistan (84.2 percent), India (66.8 percent), China (62.4 percent), Egypt (55.6 percent), Malaysia (54.9 percent), Saudi Arabia (46.3 percent), Hungary (33.6 percent), Poland (31.1 percent), Uzbekistan (28.4 percent), Great Britain (25.5 percent), Philippine (24.6 percent), Spain (24.2 percent), South Korea (19.9 percent), Germany (19.2 percent) and Georgia (18.8 percent).
The number of arrivals from EU member countries increased by 21.3 percent and amounted to 136.5 thousand persons and from the CIS countries it increased by 9.3 percent and amounted to 1141.5 thousand persons.
58.7 percent of foreigners and stateless persons who came to our country used railway and automobile, 40.5 percent - air and 0.8 percent - water transport.
The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan going abroad in 2019 increased by 13.4 percent compared to the previous year and amounted to 5567.7 thousand persons. 36.7 percent of the country citizens traveled to Iran, 28.9 percent - Georgia, 17.6 percent - Russian Federation, 11.4 percent – Turkey and 5.4 percent to other countries. 64.1 percent of the travelers were men and 35.3 percent were women.
During this period, the number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan traveling to Iran increased by 23.7 percent, Georgia – by 12.3 percent, Russian Federation – by 5.7 percent, Turkey – 4.6 percent.
In 2019, 82.6 percent of the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited foreign countries using railway and automobile, 16.7 percent - air and 0.7% - water transport.
