Development of tourism
According to the State Border Service data, on January-October 2019 Azerbaijan received from 192 countries of the world 2682.4 thousand or 10.8 percent more foreigners and stateless persons compared with the January-October 2018. 29.8 percent of the arrivals were from Russian Federation, 22.1 percent – Georgia, 9.8 percent - Turkey, 8.2 percent - Iran, 3.7 percent - Saudi Arabia, 2.0 percent the United Arab Emirates, per 1.9 percent India and Ukraine, per 1.7 percent – Iraq and Turkmenistan, 1.6 percent – Israel, 1.5 percent - Kazakhstan, 1.4 percent – Pakistan, 1.2 percent - Great Britain, 11.4 percent were citizens of other countries, 0.1 percent were stateless people. 66.1 percent of the arrivals were men and 33.9 percent were women.
There has been a significant increase in the number of visitors in January-October among Turkmenistan (96,5 percent), India (66,5 percent), China (64,2 percent), Egypt (62,5 percent), Saudi Arabia (43,7 percent), Malaysia (41,3 percent), Philippines (36,6 percent), Poland (32,7 percent), Hungary (31,4 percent), Spain (28,9 percent), Uzbekistan (26,1 percent), Kazakhstan (24,1 percent), Great Britain (23,7 percent), Germany (21,3 percent), Georgia (21,2 percent) and South Korea (20,3 percent) citizens.
On January-October 2019, the number of arrivals from EU members increased by 22,3 percent and amounted to 121,5 thousand and from the CIS countries it increased by 9,2 percent and amounted to 974,2 thousand persons.
58,0 percent of foreigners and stateless persons who came to our country used railway and automobile, 41,2 percent - air and 0,8 percent - water transport.
The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan going abroad in January-October 2019 increased by 15,9 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and amounted 4653,9 thousand persons. 36,5 percent of the country citizens travelled to Iran, 28,8 percent - Georgia, 17,5 percent - Russian Federation, 11,6 percent - Turkey, 5,6 percent to other countries. 64,0 percent of the travellers were men and 36,0 percent were women.
During this period, the number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan travelling to Iran increased by 31,5 percent, Georgia – by 12,9 percent, Russian Federation – by 6,3 percent, Turkey – 4,5 percent.
In January-October 2019, 82,3 percent of the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited foreign countries using railway and automobile, 17,0 percent - air and 0,7 percent- water transport.
