Adoption of children

According to data of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan, 751 children were adopted in 2018 which is less for 14.4 percent compared to 2017. The number of adopted boys decreased by 13.7 percent and reached 402, while the number of girls decreased by 15.1 percent and reached 349 compared to the previous year.

In 2018 compared to the previous year the number of adopted children under 3 years decreased by 10.5 percent, 3-5 years – 19.2 percent, 6-10 years – 21.0 percent, 11-17 years – 11.9 percent and correspondingly 376, 139, 132, 104 children of these age groups were adopted.

During the previous year 14 children were adopted by foreigners and stateless persons and 4 of them were girls.

In 2018 the number of child adoption decisions canceled by the courts of the Republic of Azerbaijan increased by 15.5 percent and made 67 compared to the previous year.
