Drug-related Crimes

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, 3239 or 12.3 percent of 26381 criminal cases recorded in 2018 were related to the illicit trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances, 57.1 percent of them was illegal purchase or storage of drugs or psychotropic substances in excess of their personal consumption without the purpose of sale, 33.3 percent the same actions for sale, as well as the production, shipping and sale of these substances, 7.2 percent cultivating illegal crops containing drugs, 2.2 percent crimes that have a strong effect or related to the illicit trafficking of toxic substances and 0.2 percent other crimes.

During the reporting period, 2492 offenders were detained for the illicit trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances, 99.0% of them were involved in criminal responsibility.

86.2 percent of people who committed a crime were those never worked and studied, 37.2 percent those involved in criminal responsibility. 0.2 percent of the perpetrators were minors, 6.9 percent 18-24 year olds, 13.0 percent youth aged 25-29, 79.9 percent people aged 30 and over.

In  2018, 1194.6 kilograms of 2526.3 kilograms plant-derived drugs were heroin, 755.6 kilograms marijuana, 362.5 kilograms opium, 89.2 kilograms hashish, hashish oil and resin, 124.4 kilograms other drugs and powerful means .
