Development of tourism
According to the State Border Service data, in January-July 2018, Azerbaijan received from 191 countries of the world 1655.3 thousand or 9.1% more foreigners and stateless persons compared to the same period of last year. 31.5% of the arrivals were from the Russian Federation, 19.8% - Georgia, 10.3% - Turkey, 10.0% - Iran, 3.5% - the United Arab Emirates, 2.4% - Iraq, 2.0% - Ukraine, 20.4% were citizens of other countries and 0.1 percent were stateless people. 67.2% of the arrivals were men and 32.8% were women. 11.3% of foreigners and stateless persons came to our country in January, 10.0% in February, 16.7% in March, 13.2% in April, 12.6% in May, 16.2% in June and 20.0% in July.
There has been a significant increase in the number of visitors from the Gulf countries (except Iran and the United Arab Emirates) in January-July 2018. Compared to January-July of last year, the number of Kuwait citizens arriving in Azerbaijan has increased for 3.3 times, Saudi Arabia – 3.0 times, Bahrain – 2.7 times, Qatar - 2.1 times, Iraq – 25.1% and Oman – 16.5%. The number of arrivals from Iran decreased by 21.1% and from the United Arab Emirates it decreased by 2.7%. The total number of visitors from the Gulf countries increased by 4.0% and amounted to 355.3 thousand person, and in general, one out of every five person came to our country was from the Gulf countries.
In January-July 2018, the number of arrivals from EU members increased by 7.4% and amounted to 65.9 thousand, and from the CIS countries increased by 5.6% and amounted to 614.2 thousand person.
56.8% of foreigners and stateless persons who came to our country used railway and automobile, 42.2% - air and 1.0% - water transport.
The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan going abroad in January-July 2018 increased by 9.0% compared to same period of last year and amounted 2514.8 thousand person. 33.4% of the country citizens traveled to Georgia, 24.0% - Iran, 22.9% - Russian Federation, 15.2% - Turkey, 1.4% - Ukraine, 1.0% - United Arab Emirates, 2.1% to other countries. 67.9% of the travelers were men and 32.1% were women.
During this period, the number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan traveling to Iran increased by 31.2, Georgia – by 0.9% and the number of people going to Turkey decreased by 5.5%, Russian Federation - by 2.6%.
In January-July 2018, 79.9% of the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited foreign countries using railway and automobile, 19.2% - air and 0.9% - water transport.
