Demographic situation in Azerbaijan

Last year number of population of the Republic of Azerbaijan increasing by 1.2% or 112.6 thousand person became to 9705.6 thousand person for the beginning of 2016.
Total growth on number of population was mainly due to natural increase in 2015. As well as, increase in migration was observed and this factor made up 1.0% of total population growth.
Density of population is 112 persons for per square km. 53.1% of population are urban and 46.9% rural inhabitants. 49.8% of population made up men, 50.2% women. On average there are 1000 men per 1007 women.
In the recent years the birth rate remains at a high level. Last year number of births in Azerbaijan was 111.5 thousand persons more than the number of deaths. 166.2 thousand newborns registered by the region (city) Registration Departments of Ministry of Justice and this indicator made up 17.4 of per 1000 person of population. 53.2% of newborns were boys and 46.8% girls. 3054 of infants were twins, 84 triplets and 8 quadruplets.
On average 2.1 child is per share of reproductive women in the country and that provides reproduction of population.
54.7 thousand deaths were registered in the country and per 1000 person number of deaths made up 5.7 during 2015 year. Mortality rate impacts on indicators of life expectancy. Last year this indicator was age of 74.2, as well as, for men 71.6, women 76.8.
Last year 68.8 thousand marriages and 12.8 thousand divorces were registered by the Registration Departments of the country and per 1000 person this indicator correspondingly was 7.2 and 1.3.
Ministry of Internal Affairs and State Migration Service registered 2.7 thousand person arrivals to Azerbaijan for permanent residence and 1.6 thousand person departures from the country in 2015.
