First meeting of the Working Group on the implementation of the State Program for the Development of Official Statistics held

The first meeting of the Working Group established for the implementation of the State Program for the Development of Official Statistics in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2026–2030 was held at the State Statistical Committee. Representatives of relevant state institutions participated in discussions on the implementation of the State Program, approved by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, dated 25 December 2025.

Opening the meeting with introductory remarks, Chairman of the State Statistical Committee Azer Mursagulov stated that the foundations of the development of Azerbaijan’s national statistical system were laid during the leadership of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, a legal framework in the field of statistics was established, and two state programs were implemented. He noted that, as a result of the consistent reforms carried out under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, four additional state programs on the development of official statistics were adopted and successfully implemented, the material and technical base of the statistical authorities was strengthened, and new areas of statistics were established and further developed. The Chairman emphasized that the comprehensive assessment of the current social and economic situation, informed decision-making, and the proper planning of results-based programmes and future actions are founded, first and foremost, on the availability of accurate, reliable and objective official statistics, as well as on the proper analysis of official statistical data. He noted that the wider use of administrative data held by state institutions, together with ensuring that such data are accurate, reliable and up to date, is of significant importance for maintaining the quality of official statistics. In this regard, the successful implementation of the State Program is one of the key tasks ahead.

Subsequently, Deputy Chairman of the State Statistical Committee Yusif Yusifov delivered a presentation on the measures envisaged under the Program, the mechanisms for their implementation, the monitoring and evaluation process, as well as the result indicators.

During the meeting, participants exchanged views on the measures envisaged under the State Program, inter-agency cooperation, expanding the use of administrative data sources, improving data exchange, and the tasks ahead.
