The State Statistical Committee has released statistical indicators on the occasion of 8th March

On the occasion of March 8 – International Women’s Day, the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan releases statistical indicators on the role and representation of women in all spheres of society. The official data once again confirm the growing participation and contribution of women to the socio-economic and political and public life of the country.

50,2 percent of total number of population made up women according to data as of the beginning of 2026. 46,9 percent of 95,9 thousand infants born in 2025 made up girls.

Women continue to hold a significant share in the field of education. More than 80 percent of teachers in general education institutions, more than 60 percent in higher educational institutions, up to 80 percent in secondary specialized educational institutions are women. Two-thirds of doctors are women.

The share of women among students is also significant. More than 45 percent of students studying in general education institutions, more than 60 percent in secondary specialized education institutions, and more than 50 percent in higher educational institutions are girls.

There is also an important role of women in the development of science. More than 60 percent of scientists made up women and up to 30 percent of them hold a Doctor of Science or PhD degree. 7 of active members of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and 9 of correspondent members are women.

According to preliminary data of 2025 share of women in total number of employed population is 48,1 percent. Share of women among the employees of Civil Service is 30,3 percent and among the entrepreneurs 23,7 percent.

Women’s representation in the socio-political life of our country is also increasing. While in 2000 women made up 10.7 per cent of the members of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, their share increased to 21.0 percent in 2025.  

One of the most interesting facts is the increasing of number of women with driving license year by year. However proportion of women with driving license in total number was 4,6 percent in 2008, it reached 18,8 percent in 2025.

The statistical indicators show that women not only hold a significant share in the country’s demographic structure but also actively participate in all areas of education, science, healthcare, the labor market, and socio-political life.
