The State Statistical Committee held an event dedicated to the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide
On February 26, the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan held an event dedicated to the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide. At the opening of the event, the cherished memory of the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and the victims of the Khojaly genocide was honored with a one-minute silence, followed by the performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It was noted at the event that the Khojaly tragedy, committed on the night of 25-26 February 1992, was a crime not only against the Azerbaijani people but also against universal values, human rights, and the norms of international law. At the same time, this tragedy was described as a bitter consequence of the unjust and biased policies and double standards of the central authorities during the final years of the Soviet empire, as well as a bloody manifestation of the long-standing Armenian nationalist-chauvinist policy and aggressive plans directed against the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. It was emphasized that purposeful efforts to secure international recognition of the Khojaly genocide and to convey the truth to the world were launched under the leadership of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and continued in line with the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev through the international “Justice for Khojaly” campaign. Within the framework of this campaign, international events, exhibitions, and conferences have been held in various countries around the world, and monuments commemorating the victims of Khojaly have been erected. It was also noted that today, following the liberation of Azerbaijan’s territories from occupation, a safe, sustainable, and modern living environment is being established in the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions under the “Great Return” program, and the Khojaly district is one of the important directions of this process. The revival of Khojaly is not only a social project – it is the restoration of historical justice. At the end of the event, a film dedicated to the Khojaly genocide was screened.
