Foreign trade relations

In January 2025 legal and natural entities of the Republic of Azerbaijan realized trade operations with their partners in 128 countries of the world, goods were exported to 75 countries and imported from 124 countries.

Taking into account value of statistically estimated exported crude oil and natural gas registered in the customs agencies but customs formalities of which not completed, the foreign trade turnover of the country in January 2025 made 4126,0 million USD. 2037,6 million USD or 50,3% of trade turnover made the export value, 2052,4 million USD (49,7%) – import value, and consequently positive trade balance reached to 21,2 million USD. In comparison with January 2024, foreign trade turnover increased in actual prices by 25,3% and in real terms - 9,3%. Import increased in real terms by 50,1%, while export decreased by 12,5%.

In January 2025 the export of non-oil-gas products made 245,8 million USD and compared to January 2024 it increased by 10,7% in actual prices and decreased by 10,4% in real terms.

According to the State Customs Committee data, 28,1% of foreign trade turnover of the country was with Italy, 9,5% – Türkiye, 8,1% – Russia, 7,5% – China, 5,6% - Germany, 4,5% - Australia, 4,1% - the Czech Republic, 3,8% - the United Kingdom, 3,7% - Croatia, 3,5% - Mexico, 2,3% - Romania, 2,2% - Portugal, 2,1% - Greece, 1,4% - Georgia, 1,3% - Bulgaria,1,1% each with USA and Iran, 0,9% - Ukraine, 0,8% - Brazil, 0,7% -- Belarus, while 7,7% of the trade operations were with other countries.

45,9% of exports represented the value of products shipped to Italy, 10,1% to Türkiye, 6,7% to the Czech Republic, 6,2% to Croatia, 3,6% to Portugal, 3,5% to Romania, 3,2% to Greece, 2,7% to Russia, 2,4% to the United Kingdom, 2,1% to Georgia, 2,0% to Bulgaria, 0,7% each to Ukraine and Switzerland, 0,5% to Serbia, 0,4% to Ireland, 0,3% to Israel, 0,2% each to Kazakhstan, United Arab Emirates, USA and Belarus, 0,7% to other countries.

In the value of non-oil and gas product exports, the share of goods shipped to Russia (33,0%), Türkiye (15,1%), Georgia (10,8%), Switzerland (9,0%), Ukraine (8,9%), Israel (3,3%), Kazakhstan (2,2%), the USA (2,2%), Germany (2,1%), Belarus (1,9%), Italy (1,8%), the United Arab Emirates (1,6%), Turkmenistan (1,1%), Uzbekistan (1,1%) predominated.

18,4% of the total value of imported goods to the country originated from China, 16,1% from Russia, 11,0% from Australia, 8,8% from Mexico, 8,5% from Türkiye, 5,9% from the United Kingdom, 2,7% each from Iran and Germany, 2,6% from the USA, 2,0% from Brazil, 1,9% from Italy, 1,4% from Belarus, 1,2% each from Japan and Korea, 1,1% each from Turkmenistan, Poland, India and Ukraine, 0,9% from Kazakhstan, 0,7% from France, and 9,6% from other countries.

In January 2025 compared to the same month of the previous year export of main types of products increased as follows: fresh fruits by 23,6%, fresh vegetables by 4,9%, sugar by 51,6%, fruit and vegetable cans by 21,7%, tea by 49,1%, natural grape wines and grape must by 2,0%, mineral fertilizers by 15,4%, cement clinkers by 6,3%, ferrous metal pipes by 3,1%, ferrous metal rods by 2,4%, cotton yarn by 16,4%, while the export of fruit and vegetable juices decreased by 40,1%, vegetable oils by 4,2%, tobacco by 62,7%, margarine and other edible mixtures by 19,9%, potatoes by 60,5%, polypropylene by 4,6%, cotton fiber by 9,6%, electricity by 71,5%, polyethylene by 22,5%, unprocessed aluminum by 19,1%, and bentonite clay by 3,6%,

In January 2025 compared to January 2024 import of wheat increased by 23,5%, butter, other dairy fats and pastes by 2.5-fold, raw sugar by 99,6%, tea by 40,9%, beef by 33,1%, passenger cars by 22,4%,  rolled steel by 27,2%, computing machinery, blocks and installations by 53,9%, ferrous metal rods by 2,6-fold, rubber tires by 61,2%, trucks by 30,3%, buses by 3,6-fold, washing machines by 9,7%, polypropylene by 50,7%, cement by 35,8%, while the import of fresh fruit decreased by 6,8%, chocolate and chocolate products by 4,1%, vegetable oils by 63,3%, flour confectionery by 23,2%, potatoes by 8,1%, poultry and its by-products by 21,4%, fresh vegetables by 9,7%, pharmaceuticals by 30,4%, ferrous metal pipes by 18,6%, furniture by 47,3%, synthetic detergents by 32,4%, polyethylene by 20,1%, mineral fertilizers by 0,4%, ferrous metal corners by 15,4%, household air conditioners by 22,4%, household refrigerators by 3,9%.
