The 55th Session of the UN Statistical Commission and High-Level Forum on Official Statistics was held

The 55th Session of the UN Statistical Commission and High-Level Forum on official statistics was held from February 26 to March 1, 2024 in New York, United States. First Deputy Chairman of the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Vahab Mammadov attended the events.

During the session, 19 documents were presented for discussion, and 12 informational issues were reviewed. Decisions were made on reports developed by relevant experts and working groups covering a wide range of topics, including fundamental principles of official statistics, working methods of the Statistical Commission, data and indicators for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, data science, national accounts, economic statistics, environmental-economic accounting, agricultural, social, governance, gender, population and housing, regional development, tourism, business, trade, climate change statistics, international statistical classifications, open data, and numerous other areas during the 4-day session. In addition to the topics mentioned above, data reports on demographic, disability, health, service, information and communications technology statistics, ageing-related statistics and age-disaggregated data, international comparison programme, business registers, integration of statistical and geospatial information, data stewardship, coordination of statistical programmes, and follow-up to the policy decisions of the General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council were presented. The High-Level Forum dedicated to the fundamental principles of official statistics explored the historical significance of these principles in strengthening trust and confidence in official statistics, and discussed the role of the official statistics in addressing challenges and harnessing opportunities within the rapidly changing information ecosystem.
