Current state of tourism

According to the State Border Service data, in January-April 2021 Azerbaijan received from 134 countries of the world 162,9 thousand or 3,3 times less foreigners and stateless persons and the visits made were mainly for non-tourism purposes.

32,7 percent of the arrivals were from Russian Federation, 27,6 percent - Turkey, 16,7 percent - Iran, 10,8 percent – Georgia, 2,5 percent - Ukraine, 1,1 percent - Great Britain, 1,0 percent – Belarus, per 0,7 percent – Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, per 0,6 percent – Turkmenistan and Germany,  0,5 percent – Italy and 4,5 percent were citizens of other countries. 92,6 percent of the arrivals were men and 7,4 percent were women.

In January-April of current year compared with the corresponding period of previous year the number of arrivals from Georgia decreased by 8,6 times, Turkmenistan - 6,9 times, Kazakhstan – 5,7 times, Uzbekistan – 3,8 times, Russian Federation – 3,1 times, Ukraine – 2,7 times, Great Britain – 2,7 times, Belarus – 1,8 times, Turkey – 1,5 times, Iran – 1,2  times,.

In general, the number of arrivals from Gulf countries decreased by 2,5 times and amounted to 27,7 thousand persons, from the CIS countries it decreased by 3,1 times and amounted to 63,1 thousand persons and from EU member countries it decreased by 2,6 times and amounted to 5,9 thousand persons compared with January-April 2020.

69,7 percent of foreigners and stateless persons who came to our country used railway and automobile, 27,1 percent - air and 3,2 percent - water transport.

The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan going abroad decreased by 5,8 times compared with January-April 2020 and amounted to 162,8 thousand persons. 42,4 percent of the country citizens traveled to Turkey, 22,1 percent - Russian Federation, 9,4 percent – Georgia, 7,9 percent – Iran, 19,2 percent to other countries. 75,4 percent of the travelers were men and 24,6 percent were women. During this period the number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan traveling to Iran decreased by 28,5 times, Georgia - 18,3 times, Russian Federation - 5,4 times, Turkey - 1,3 times compared with corresponding period of previous year.

In January-April 2021, 68,6 percent of the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited foreign countries using air transport, 25,1 percent - railway and automobile and 6,3 percent - water transport.
