Foreign trade relations

In January-November 2025 legal and natural entities of the Republic of Azerbaijan realized trade operations with their partners in 177 countries of the world, goods were exported to 126 countries and imported from 170 countries.

Taking into account value of statistically estimated exported crude oil and natural gas registered in the customs agencies but customs formalities of which not completed, the foreign trade turnover of the country in January-November 2025 made 43830,5 million USD. 22642,2 million USD or 51,7% of trade turnover made the export value, 21188,3 million USD (48,3%) – import value, and consequently positive trade balance amounted to 1453,9 million USD. In comparison with January-November 2024, foreign trade turnover increased in actual prices by 2,4% and decreased in real terms - 9,2%. Import decreased in real terms by 10,4%, export by 8,3%.

In January-November 2025 the export of non-oil-gas products made 3317,0 million USD and compared to January-November 2024 it increased by 7,3% in actual prices and decreased by 17,9% in real terms.

According to the State Customs Committee data, 25,2% of foreign trade turnover of the country was with Italy, 11,7 – Türkiye, 10,1% – Russia, 9,5% – China, 3,1% - USA, 2,9% - Germany, 2,3% - United Kingdom, 2,0% each with  2,2% Australia and Switzerland, 1,8% - Czech Republic, 1,7% each with – Bulgaria, Greece and Georgia, 1,5% each with Croatia and Romania, 1,4% - Kazakhstan, 1,3% - Iran, 1,1% each Uzbekistan and Ukraine, 1,0% - Portugal, 0,9% - France, 0,8% each with Belarus and India, 12,9% of the trade operations were with other countries.

46,2% of exports represented the value of products shipped to Italy, 13,1% to Türkiye, 4,6% to Russia, 3,2% each to Bulgaria, Greece and Czech Republic, 2,8% to Croatia, 2,7% to Georgia, 2,5% to Romania, 2,3% to Germany, 1,8% each to Portugal and Switzerland, 1,2% to the United Kingdom, 1,1% to Ireland, 0,9% each to Ukraine and Tunisia, 0,8% to the Netherlands, 0,7% to France, 0,6% to India, 0,5% each to the United Arab Emirates and Serbia, 5,4% to other countries.

In the value of non-oil and gas product exports, the share of goods shipped to Russia (32,5%), Türkiye (16,5%), Switzerland (9,5%), Georgia (9,2%), Ukraine (5,7%), the United Arab Emirates (320%), Kazakhstan (2,6%), Belarus (2,1%), Uzbekistan (2,1%), Turkmenistan (1,7%), the USA (1,6%), Germany (1,2%), Italy (1,2%), China (1,0%) predominated.

19,5% of the total value of imported goods to the country originated from China, 16,1% from Russia, 10,0% from Türkiye, 6,2% from USA, 4,2% from Australia, 3,6% each from the United Kingdom and Germany, 2,6% from Iran, 2,5% from Kazakhstan, 2,3% from Switzerland, 2,1% each from Italy and Uzbekistan, 1,5% from Japan, 1,4% each from Belarus, Brazil, Mexico and Korea, 1,3% each from Canada and the Republic of South Africa, 1,2% from Ukraine, 1,1% from France, 1,0% from India, and 12,2% from other countries.

In January-November 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year export of main types of products increased as follows: fresh fruits by 23,2%, fresh vegetables by 18,9%, sugar by 61,7%, cigarettes by 39,1%, potato by 47,3%, vegetable oils by 12,8%, mineral fertilizers by 1,8%, polyethylene by 7,7%, unprocessed aluminum by 77,8%, cement clinkers by 11,4%, cotton yarn by 23,4%, while the export of fruit and vegetable juices decreased by 3,6%, tobacco by 38,5%, fruit and vegetable cans by 16,6%, margarine and other edible mixtures by 26,7%, tea by 0,6%, natural grape wines and grape must by 20,0%, cotton fiber by 9,9%, polypropylene by 2,2%, electricity by 30,1%, ferrous metal pipes by 8,7%, ferrous metal rods by 40,9%, and bentonite clay by 19,2%.

In January-November 2025 compared to January-November 2024 import of wheat increased by 1,3%, raw sugar by 29,3%, potato by 3,2%, beef by 4,7%, fresh vegetable by 33,4%, cigarettes by 2,6%, passenger cars by 29,2%, buses by 2,1-fold, mineral fertilizers by 4,4%, household air conditioners by 10,6%, polyethylene by 20,0%, polypropylene by 6,8%, ferrous metal corners by 2,2%, household refrigerators by 12,1%, while import of vegetable oils decreased by 7,9%, butter, other dairy fats and pastes by 12,7%, fresh fruits by 13,9%, chocolate and chocolate products by 4,5%, flour confectionery by 2,0%, tea by 0,9%, poultry and its by-products by 29,2%, pharmaceuticals by 15,7%, rolled steel by 2,7%, ferrous metal pipes by 10,1%, computing machinery, blocks and installations by 11,3%, shoes by 3,6%, rubber tires by 3,6%, synthetic detergents by 7,9%, furniture by 2,5%, trucks by 6,9%, ferrous metal rods by 13,9%, washing machines by 10,0%, cement by 18,9%.
