Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Korea statistical agencies will continue

On 19-23 September 2022, a group of employees of the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited Korea within the framework of the next project “Establishment of an Administrative Database Integrated Management System” implemented jointly with Statistics Korea (KOSTAT) on the basis of the “Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the field of statistics between the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Statistics Korea” approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated from 11 February 2020, No. 930. During the visit, the issues of cooperation arising from the Memorandum, the work done on the implementation of the project and the achievements gained over the past period were discussed, at the same time, information on the legal basis related to administrative data, organization of work in this field, coordination with data providers, obtaining administrative data, integration into statistical databases, processing and using in official statistics, the applied software and Korea experience on management of the system of administrative data statistics, was presented.

Mr. Han Hun, Chairman of KOSTAT met with representatives of the State Statistical Committee and noted that bilateral cooperation between the State Statistical Committee and KOSTAT established in 2018, is successfully continuing. Timely and quality implementation of the projects implemented over the past period, signing of Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation between two agencies created a good basis for the launch of the current project. The establishment of the statistical data dissemination system “Azerbaijan Statistical Information Service - ASIS” based on KOSTAT experience and other activities, along with the development of statistics, contribute to the further expansion of cooperation between the Republic of Korea and the Republic of Azerbaijan, which celebrates this year the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Mr. Yusif Yusifov, Deputy Chairman of the State Statistical Committee emphasized that cooperation with KOSTAT has created new opportunities for the Committee, which eternally considers the exchange of experience and information in the application of international standards, the application of modern information and communication technologies in the statistical production process, the sharing of the latest innovations and practices, the implementation of mutual activities related to human capacity building, as a priority in its activities. He noted that the implemented projects, as well as the organization of trainings on socio-economic statistics and information technologies in order to strengthen statistical human capacity, the development of statistical training modules, the creation of a training room and studio in the State Statistical Committee have a positive impact on the strengthening statistical human capacity in Azerbaijan. He noted that the reception by Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, of the delegation led by the Chairman of KOSTAT, who visited our country to attend the conference on the results of completed projects in Baku, 2019, was an important factor for the further development of mutual relations between two agencies.

Then, the sides exchanged views on the upcoming issues within the framework of the project “Establishment of an Administrative Database Integrated Management System”, and the new project proposals on the application of modern applied software packages in conducting statistical analysis and the organization of study visits to increase the knowledge and skills of employees of local statistical bodies, were discussed.
