The 70th plenary session of the Conference of European Statisticians is being held on 20-22 June in Geneva, Switzerland. Mr Tahir Budagov, Chairman of the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan represents our country in this event.

The Conference began with a special plenary session dedicated to the 30 years of the “Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics" that adopted by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.

Mapping of the core values of official statistics with the Fundamental Principles of the UN, guidelines on statistics on children and youth, on forms of employment, on the use of new data sources for measuring migration and cross-border mobility, on measuring the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on women and men, Classification of Economic Activities, reports on the work of the Conference of European Statisticians, its Bureau and the expert group, as well as on the work of the Regional Coordination Group on Data and Statistics for Europe and Central Asia, matters arising from the fifty-third session of the United Nations Statistical Commission, strategic directions in official statistics and geospatial work, collaboration with private data providers and the issues covering the topics of the seminar to be held within the plenary session for 2023 are being discussed in the sessions attended by the heads of national statistical offices, as well as heads and experts of statistical departments of international organizations.

The use of geospatial data in the production of statistical data, coordination of activities carried out by UNECE in various fields of statistics, in particular the measurement of poverty, discussion and evaluation of the results achieved in the field of modernization of the official statistics by the High-Level Group established by the Conference of European Statisticians, collaboration with private data providers and other issues will be discussed in the conference.

In the end, the final report of the Conference of European Statisticians will be adopted and the members of the Bureau of the Conference for the next term will be elected.
