Foreign trade relations
In January-September 2025 legal and natural entities of the Republic of Azerbaijan realized trade operations with their partners in 173 countries of the world, goods were exported to 115 countries and imported from 168 countries.
Taking into account value of statistically estimated exported crude oil and natural gas registered in the customs agencies but customs formalities of which not completed, the foreign trade turnover of the country in January-September 2025 made 35402,7 million USD. 18633,7 million USD or 52,6% of trade turnover made the export value, 16769,0 million USD (47,4%) – import value, and consequently positive trade balance amounted to 1864,7 million USD. In comparison with January-September 2024, foreign trade turnover increased in actual prices by 3,6 % and decreased in real terms - 8,1%. Import decreased in real terms by 8,3 %, export by 7,9 %.
In January-September 2025 the export of non-oil-gas products made 2649,2 million USD and compared to January-September 2024 it increased by 7,6 % in actual prices and decreased by 15,7 % in real terms.
According to the State Customs Committee data, 25,2% of foreign trade turnover of the country was for Italy, 12.3% for Türkiye, 10.3% for Russia, 9.6% for China, 3.1% for Germany, 2.9% for the United States, 2.7% for the United Kingdom, 2.1% for the Czech Republic, 1.9% for Greece, 1.8% for Georgia, 1.7% for Bulgaria, 1.6% for Kazakhstan, 1.5% for Croatia, 1.4% each for Romania and Switzerland, 1.3% for Iran, 1.1% each for Portugal, Ukraine, and Australia, and 0.9% each for Uzbekistan and Belarus, 14,1% of the trade operations were with other countries.

45,8% of exports represented the value of products shipped to Italy, 13.9% accounts for Türkiye, 4.7% for Russia, 3.8% for the Czech Republic, 3.4% for Greece, 3.1% for Bulgaria, 2.9% for Croatia, 2.7% for Georgia, 2.5% each for Germany and Romania, 2.1% for Portugal, 1.6% for Switzerland, 1.3% for the United Kingdom, 0.9% each for Ireland and Ukraine, 0.8% for the Netherlands, 0.6% each for Serbia and Tunisia, 0.5% for France, and 0.4% each for the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Indonesia, China, and Kazakhstan, 3,4% for other countries.
In the value of non-oil and gas product exports, the share of goods shipped to 19.9% for China, 16.5% for Russia, 10.5% for Türkiye, 5.7% for the United States, 4.3% for the United Kingdom, 3.8% for Germany, 3.0% for Kazakhstan, 2.7% for Iran, 2.2% each for Italy and Australia, 1.7% each for Mexico, Brazil and the Republic of South Africa, 1.6% each for Uzbekistan and Japan, 1.5% each for Korea and Belarus, 1.2% for Ukraine, 1.1% for Switzerland, and 1.0% each for France, India and Spain, and 12,6% from other countries.
In January-September 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year export of main types of products increased as follows: fresh fruits - 34.6%, fresh vegetables –16.1%, sugar –56.8%, cigarettes –24.4%, potatoes –47.0%, fruit and vegetable juices –2.6%, vegetable oils –24.8%, tea –1.0%, mineral fertilizers –4.5%, polyethylene –6.7%, unprocessed aluminum –44.1%, cement clinker –17.5%, and cotton yarn – 21.4%, while the export of the canned fruits and vegetables decreased by 15.2%, tobacco – by 51.3%, margarine and other food-grade mixtures – by 25.7%, natural grape wines and grape must – by 27.3%, cotton fiber – by 8.0%, polypropylene – by 1.7%, electricity – by 30.4%, pipes made of ferrous metals – by 3.8%, bars made of ferrous metals – by 39.3%, and bentonite clay – by 14.5%.
In January-September 2025 compared to January-September 2024 Imports of wheat increased by 15.8%, raw sugar – by 19.2%, potatoes – by 18.3%, fresh vegetables – by 37.1%, cigarettes – by 4.0 times, passenger cars – by 31.5%, rolled steel – by 3.2%, household air conditioners – by 12.9%, furniture – by 2.8%, buses – by 3.1 times, polyethylene – by 19.5%, mineral fertilizers – by 0.7%, bars made of ferrous metals – by 2.9%, polypropylene – by 5.5%, and household refrigerators – by 18.5%, Imports of vegetable oils decreased by 15.9%, butter, other milk fats and pastes – by 11.0%, fresh fruits – by 14.5%, chocolate and chocolate products – by 2.6%, flour confectionery products – by 1.2%, tea – by 6.9%, poultry meat and edible offal – by 28.2%, beef – by 0.9%, pharmaceutical products – by 16.8%, pipes made of ferrous metals – by 16.1%, computing machines, units and equipment – by 8.7%, footwear – by 4.0%, rubber tires – by 1.4%, synthetic detergents – by 7.1%, trucks – by 3.4%, washing machines – by 7.0%, angles made of ferrous metals – by 2.6%, and cement – by 23.8%.
