As of January 1, 2021, 1228,8 thousand pensioners (1270,6 thousand as of January 1, 2020) were registered in the State Social Protection Fund under the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population, which is 12,3 percent of the country's population. 58,3 percent of them receive old-age pensions, 30,4 percent - for disability and 11,3 percent – for the loss of the head of the family. The average monthly pension increased by 14,7 percent compared to the corresponding period of previous year and amounted to 302,2 manat, and it was equal to 42.7 percent of the average monthly salary.

In order to further strengthen the social protection of pensioners in the country, the insurance part of all types of labor pensions was indexed and increased from January 1, 2021 in accordance with the annual growth rate of average monthly nominal salary by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan No. 2491 dated February 5, 2021 “On indexation of labor pensions”.

At the same time, in order to ensure the social protection of the population, various categories of people are provided with various types of monthly social benefits. As of January 1, 2021, 100,2 thousand people (82,4 thousand - as of January 1, 2020) receive age-related benefits, 182,5 thousand people (180,5 thousand) - for disability, 49,2 thousand people (47,0 thousand) – for the loss of the head of the family, 52,7 thousand (63,0 thousand) children under 18 years of age receive benefits for disabilities, 27,2 thousand people (28,3 thousand) - other types of benefits.

2,4 thousand people who are not entitled to a labor pension were provided with benefits for public utilities, transport and other services.

Monthly allowances are paid to 244 guardians of orphans and children without parental care. In addition, monthly benefits are provided for 12,8 thousand children from 7,8 thousand families of the families of martyrs, war invalids or who became disabled during the events of January 20, 1990, invalids of I and II degree disability and persons that died as a result of the Chernobyl accident, as well as participants in the elimination of the consequences of Chernobyl accident and military servants. Besides, 1852 low-income families with 1855 children under the age of one year and 2,5 thousand women with more than five children were provided with social benefits for 8,9 thousand children, and compensation was paid to 369 people injured as a result of occupational injuries or occupational diseases.

During 2020, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population provided lump-sum benefits to 75996 families for the birth of 77644 children, for the treatment of 3991 people affected by radiation accidents, and to 5508 people upon release from penitentiary institutions.

As of January 1, 2021, 324.0 thousand members of 77.3 thousand low-income families received targeted state social assistance and its average monthly amount per capita was 57.10 manat.

At the same time, 287,8 thousand people from different categories were awarded with the scholarship of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
