Current state of tourism

The situation with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, as in other countries, has not passed unnoticed in the tourism sector of Azerbaijan too. According to the State Border Service data, in January 2021 Azerbaijan received from 105 countries of the world 36,1 thousand or 6,3 times less foreigners and stateless persons and the visits made were mainly for non-tourism purposes..

In January 2020, 34,1 percent of the arrivals were from Russian Federation, 28,4 percent - Turkey, 13,1 percent - Iran, 11,7 percent – Georgia, 2,1 percent - Ukraine, 1,5 percent - Great Britain, 1,0 percent – Belarus, per 0,8 percent - Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, 0,7 percent - Kazakhstan, 0,6 percent – Germany, 0,5 percent – Italy, 0,4 percent – USA, 0,3 percent – France, 4,0 percent - were citizens of other countries. 95,2 percent of the arrivals were men and 4,8 percent were women.

In January of current year the number of arrivals from Georgia decreased by 15,1 times, Kazakhstan – 12,6 times, Turkmenistan - 8,8 times, Uzbekistan – 6,0 times, Russian Federation – 5,5 times, Ukraine – 5,3 times, Great Britain – 3,5 times, Iran – 2,8 times, Belarus – 2,6 times, Turkey – 2.3 times.

In general, the number of arrivals from Gulf countries decreased by 7,3 times and amounted to 4,8 thousand persons, from the CIS countries it decreased by 5,6 times and amounted to 14,4 thousand persons and from EU member countries it decreased by 3,7 times and amounted to 1,6 thousand persons compared with January 2020.

72,0 percent of foreigners and stateless persons who came to our country used railway and automobile, 23,4 percent - air and 4,6 percent - water transport.

The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan going abroad decreased by 15,6 times compared with January 2020 and amounted to 27,8 thousand persons. 48,1 percent of the country citizens traveled to Turkey, 14,8 percent - Russian Federation, 10,4 percent - Georgia, 8,7 percent - Iran and 18,0 percent to other countries. 77,2 percent of the travelers were men and 28,8 percent were women. During this period the number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan traveling to Iran decreased by 68,1 times, Georgia - 45,1 times, Russian Federation - 17,8 times, Turkey - 3,2 times compared with corresponding period of last year.

In January 2021, 31,2 percent of the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited foreign countries using railway and automobile, 60,7 percent - air and 8,1 percent - water transport.
