Apiculture

Based on the results of statistical survey organized by the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the aim to provide production of official statistical materials in the field of apiculture according to the Law on “Apiculture” of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in 2018 there were obtained 4993.9 ton of honey, 98.6 ton of bee wax, 9.9 ton of bee glue, 7.7 ton of bee bread and 400.8 kg. of bee milk from 501.0 thsd. bee families existing in 30474 farms. Average sale price of 1 kg. of honey made 20.6 manats, bee wax - 14.2 manats, bee glue - 118.4 manats, bee bread - 71.1  manats, average sale price of 1 gr. of bee milk was 4.6 manats.

In 2018 8.3 tons of honey at a cost of 71.5 thsd. USD or more for 1.8 tons compared to 2017 have been exported, of which 96.4 percent is per the share of Japan.

Generally, during 10 years after approval of the Law on “Apiculture” of the Republic of Azerbaijan number of bee families and production of bee increased by 3.5 times, number of bee families per farm engaged in apiculture increased from 11.1 to 16.4.

According to the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on “Stimulating the development of apiculture in the Republic of Azerbaijan” dated 5 March 2018, № 3747 the subsidy in amount of 10 manats has been identified per bee family (beehive) to natural and legal entities engaged in apiculture and that positively impacted on development of apiculture in the country. It is not coincidence that in comparison with previous year number of bee families in 2018 increased by 229.3 thsd. and production of bee – by 19050.8 tons. Moreover, development of apiculture is essential for providing employment in rural places and increasing population incomes.        

During the survey beekeeping farms have made several proposals for further development of this area like allocation by the government the preferential credits, establishment of pedigree bee farms and supply points, regular organization of honey sale fairs, control of quality of apiculture products packed and offered for sale.
