50.1 percent or 4 million 999.1 thousand women made up total number of population to the beginning of January, 2019. 46.6 percent of 139.0 thousand infants born last year made up girls. 53.4 percent of women have ability for the fertility.
 One of the most important issues in the mind of government is the protection of women health. At the moment there are 17 maternity hospitals, 130 maternity welfare clinics, 248 children's polyclinics and ambulatory in the country. Share of women taking active part in social-economic life of Azerbaijan in total number of employed population is 48.2 percent .
80.1 percent of teachers in education institutions, 78.9 percent in secondary specialized educational institutions, 52.0 percent in institutions of higher education and 62.0 percent of doctors are women. 46.9 percent of school children in education institutions, 65.7 percent in secondary specialized educational institutions, and 48.2 percent of students studying in high schools are girls.
There is also an important role of women in the development of science. 58.1 percent of scientists made up women. Over the last 5 years number of women with the degree of doctor of science and philosophy increased by 1.3 times. 9 of active members of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and 12 of correspondent member are women.
Share of women among the employees of Civil Servant is 28.6 percent and among the owners 21.5 percent. 42.0 percent of persons engaged in physical education and sport are women.
Number of member woman in Milli Majlis is also increased. 4.3 percent of all deputies formed women in 1990, it was 10.7 percent in 2000, today share of women in Parliament reached to 16.8 percent .
In comparison with the first election of municipality number of women elected in the last Elections increased by 6 times and reached to 5236 person and share of women among the municipality members was 35.0 percent . This indicator was 4.0 percent in previous municipality elections.
One of the most interesting factors is the increasing of number of women with driving license year by year. However proportion of women with driving license in total number was 4.6 percent in 2008, increased by 7/4 percent in 2018.
Thus, women of Azerbaijan actively take part as full-fledged members of society in the social, economic and public-policy life.
