Traffic accidents occurred on the highways in 2018

In 2018, the country's automobile roads suffered a traffic accident of 1817, or 0.9 percent less than in 2017, the number of victims of these events dropped by 1.5 percent to 2433. 722 of suffered persons died and 1711 of them were injured. 40.9% of accidents happened in the daytime, 38.7% - at night time, 20.4% - during twilight; 29.1% of accidents occurred on Saturdays and Sundays.

90.0% of traffic accidents happened in settlements; number of persons died as a result of these accidents compared to the previous year increased by 7.3% and made 556 persons, while number of injured persons increased by 0.9% and made 1628 persons.

47.5% (less 8.0% compared to last year) of all traffic accidents happened with participation of transport means and pedestrians, 32.4% (4.3% more) - several transport means, 20.1% (10.6% more) - one mode of transport.

76.5% of persons died and 74.1% of injured as a result of traffic accidents were men.

49 accidents occurred because of drunk driving and caused death or injury, where 27 persons died, 36 persons injured. 63.3% of such accidents have been committed by drivers of motor-cars.

During the year the number of administrative violation of traffic rules compared to 2017 increased by 1.3% and made 3409.7 thousand. 49.6% of violations were detected on exceeding the speed on the road (less than 4.3% compared to the previous year), 14.1% - disobedience the requirements of the traffic and road signs (57.6% more), 10.9% - continue the movement during the traffic light or the regulator’s warning sign is active (9.7% more), 9.1% - violation of the parking and stopping rules (7.3% less), 4.0% - failure to sign compulsory insurance contract (23.9% less), 3.1% - driving without seat belt (12.0% less) and the rest by other reasons. Penalties in amount of 85.6 million manats were applied because of violation of traffic rules.
