An event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was held at the State Statistical Committee

On May 25, the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan hosted an event dedicated to the 28th of May - the Republic Day and the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.

Firstly, the memory of the founders of the People's Republic was commemorated with a minute of silence. Speaking at the event, Chairman of the State Statistical Committee Tahir Budagov said that the establishment of the first democratic state in the Muslim East on May 28, 1918, was included as a glorious and historic event in the life of our people. He noted that Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which aims at the establishment of an independent, free and democratic republic, has declared its ability to establish own destiny for a total of 23 months. After our country gained its independence for the second time in the twentieth century, national leader Heydar Aliyev continued the democratic and independence traditions of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which had been operating in 1918-1920. In the new historical context, after the return of the national leader Heydar Aliyev to the political power in 1993, he began to occupy a worthy place among the world powers as a sovereign member of the international community. Formation of modern independent Azerbaijan and its formation as a state was made possible thanks to this great return.

Tahir Budagov emphasized that the historical traditions of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which struggles for independent statehood and democratic activity, are still being developed and resolutely developed. Under the leadership of Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, who continues to professionally pursue the national statehood path of our nation-wide leader, the great success of the modern-day and independent country as a political heir of the Democratic People's Republic of the world is ensured by great leadership and vision, new victories are being made .

Other speakers said that at the end of the twentieth century, our people gained their independence again and that time our state was in danger, nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev returned to power again. It is necessary to point out that, our people will continue to be closer to the President, to achieve fundamental achievements, to maintain independence, and to strengthen state from time to time.

At the end of the event, there was showed the documentary film "Permanent Journey" which was presented by the Baku Media Center under subordination  Arzu Aliyeva, talked about the hard and glorious destiny of the Azerbaijani delegation to the Paris peace conference led by Alimardan bey Topchubashov, Chairman of the Parliament of the People's Republic.
